Olle Stee: the restaurant on the Pieterpad in Zuidlaren

Every hiker has to walk it once: the Pieterpad. The Netherlands' best-known long-distance walk runs from Pieterburen in northern Groningen to Sint-Pietersberg in southern Limburg. This makes it a walk through a wide variety of landscapes. From the clay of Groningen, you walk across sandy Drenthe to the Sallandse Heuvelrug and the Achterhoek, before ending in hilly Limburg.

In total, the Pieterpad consists of 26 stages that are about 15 to 22 kilometres long. You can walk them one after the other, from top to bottom or in reverse, but you can also do individual stages. One of the stages in Drenthe takes you past Olle Stee: the restaurant along the Pieterpad in Zuidlaren. The ideal place to take a rest while enjoying a bite to eat or a drink.

Want to walk the entire Pieterpad? Then you'll cover about 500 kilometres. If you start in northern Groningen and stick to the 26 stages, you'll visit the province of Drenthe after just a few days. Walk one stage every day? Then on the third stage you walk from the city of Groningen to the Noordlaarderbos, where you cross the provincial border. The end point on that day is Zuidlaren in Drenthe.

Zuidlaren is an important part of the Pieterpad. It is not only where the stage from Groningen ends, but also the starting point of the stage a day later. That goes from Zuidlaren to Rolde, also in Drenthe. After that, the Pieterpad stays in Drenthe for a while with stages from Rolde to Sleen and from Sleen to Coevorden. Only from Coevorden do you leave Drenthe and walk a stage to Hardenberg in Overijssel.

In Drenthe, there are four stages to complete starting in Zuidlaren to Rolde (17 km), from Rolde to Schoonloo (18 km), from Schoonloo to Sleen (23 km) and from Sleen to Coevorden (21 km). Along the route to be walked, you will encounter a number of interesting sights in Drenthe. It all starts in Zuidlaren with the play park Sprookjeshof, restaurant de Olle Stee and the Museum Molen de Wachter.

In the stage from Rolde to Schoonloo, you will encounter dolmens, the Jacobus church and the Boomkroonpad outdoor centre. Via Rolde, the stage heads towards Schoonloo, which leads to Sleen in the next stage. During this stretch, you'll encounter dolmens and the beautiful open-air museum Ellert and Brammert. From Sleen, the final stretch runs in beautiful Drenthe to Coevorden, where the Stedelijk Museum Coevorden can also be found at the same time.

Zuidlaren in Drenthe is the end point of the stage from the city of Groningen. Upon arrival in the village, you walk past Sprookjeshof Play Park and Museum Molen de Wachter. In addition, you'll find restaurant Olle Stee in the middle of the old village centre. This makes The restaurant on the Pieterpad in Zuidlaren. Walking several stages a day

The stage from the city of Groningen is 22 km long. It takes you past several museums, the Martinitoren, Hortus Haren and Galerie Appèlbergen. If you are a trained walker and do not stop along the way, the stage will take around 3.5 to 4 hours. If you leave early in the morning, it is possible to arrive in Zuidlaren already around lunchtime. If so, we warmly invite you at Olle Stee to take a seat on our terrace for a hearty lunch. Order a filled sandwich, a hot homemade soup with a salad or satisfy your hunger with one of our plates that we always serve with fries.

After the lunch you can stay in Zuidlaren and visit the museum Molen de Wachter.

Are you less trained, like to take more breaks in between or want to visit sights along the way? Then you will probably choose to walk only one stage daily.

Will you arrive in Zuidlaren from your starting point in the city of Groningen in the afternoon? Then we invite you to take a seat with us for a refreshing drink.
