Pieterpad Zuidlaren

The Pieterpad is by far the best-known long-distance hike in the Netherlands. At 501 kilometres, it takes hikers from the far north in Pieterburen Groningen to Sint-Pietersberg in South Limburg. The distinctive white and red markings guide the hiker through some of the most beautiful natural areas in the Netherlands. The Pieterpad introduces walkers to historic towns and characteristic villages including the village of Zuidlaren. Zuidlaren is an important part of the Pieterpad. It is not only the place where the stage from Groningen ends, but also the starting point of the stage to Rolde. Many a Pieterpad hiker has walked across one of Zuidlaren's village greens and enjoyed the many pavement cafés along the village green.

Drenthe trail

The Drenthepad is the oldest hiking trail in the Netherlands and today counts more than 324 kilometres. The Drenthepad is not an official long-distance walk but is called a regional trail. By following the yellow-red markings, hikers get to know the province of Drenthe. The Drenthepad is full of historical highlights and guides the hiker through no less than three national parks. Namely: Nationaal Park Drentsche Aa, Nationaal Park Drents Friese Wold and Nationaal Park Dwingelderveld. Dolmens, burial mounds, medieval cart tracks, you will encounter them all on the Drenthe trail. Walk through characteristic villages such as Diever, Veenhuizen, Borger and, of course, Zuidlaren! Get to know the village of many village greens and settle down at Zuidlaren's cosiest restaurant.

Dogback trail

The latest long-distance walk to pass through Zuidlaren is the 325-kilometre Hondsrug Trail. This long-distance walk runs from the city of Groningen to Osnabrück in Germany and is marked with yellow signs with a blue 'H'. Where the route crosses the German border, the name of the Hondsrugpad changes to the Hünenweg. The hiking trail was developed to create a physical connection between two geoparks: the Geopark de Hondsrug and the Terra Vita Global Geopark in Germany. During the Hondsrug path you walk through Zuidlaren, the perfect opportunity for a rest. At Olle Stee, of course!
